Master Chris has turned a life long passion for teaching others into a Martial Arts Dojo like no other. After several years of teaching International youth organizations he turned his efforts to the martial arts. Sensei Chris began his formal training of the martial arts in 1989. After reaching the rank of purple belt in Kempo, he found himself teaching the children’s program at his first dojo in Oregon, WI. By the time he reached his green belt test he was running all of the classes and managing the school.
Master Chris eventually moved on to two more dojos where he was the chief instructor as well. Bothered by the commercialization of the martial arts and the increasing lack of credibility of the black belts that were being promoted, Master Chris opened Martingilio Martial Arts. Established in 2004, Martingilio Martial Arts has continued to grow into his vision of integrity and credibility. Training under many of the greatest martial artists in the world has helped Master Chris to become a highly skilled fighter as well as a great teacher. His instructors are Grandmaster Chris Thomas, a 9th Degree Black Belt in Ryukyu Kempo and Isshinryu Karate, Grandmaster Ken Smith, Master of Tapi-Tapi and a 9th Degree Black Belt, and Grandmaster Dusty Seale, a 9th Degree Black Belt in Ryukyu Kempo. Master Chris continues to teach 6 days each week as well as puts on a “white belt” regularly as he feels that he is always a student.

Mary started taking classes at Martingilio Martial Arts back in the early summer of 2013, after listening to her brother, Sean, talk about it non stop for the previous year or two. Turns out he was right, and it is an awesome place! Mary did not consider herself an athletic person, but low and behold she is now what one may call moderately fit! She even developed some arm muscles. She is very proud. Mary Started with kick boxing, and soon added tai chi. Mary now teaches the Saturday morning kickboxing class, and would be really happy to have you join her. By day Mary is an ophthalmic technician, and by evening she is doing any arts and crafty she can get her hands on when not at the dojo.

As co-owner and founder of Martingilio Martial Arts, Craig brings a multi-sport background to the dojo. With extensive knowledge in fitness and strength training, his early education included traditional boxing from his father who was an Army boxing coach. He has been a student of kickboxing and Tai chi over the last decade and the senior instructor in both disciplines under Master Martingilio.
Craig first met Master Chris while taking one of his classes at a school here in Madison. What started as a teacher/ student relationship turned into partnership to open a school that would be different than all the rest. A dojo that would set a new standard in Madison. Craig has turned into a great martial artist and kickboxing coach as a result. A serial graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Craig owns and runs a number of businesses focused on real estate.
